Deputy Head – Academic

Our client is a co-educational prep school, for 3- 11 year old children, located in West London, seeking a new Deputy Head with a focus on the Academic part of the Prep School. In keeping with the schools ethos of celebrating a range of abilities academically and provide sporting and creatives opportunities too. The class sizes are small and ensure that every child from the beginning of their time with the school feels valued and cared for with a special part to play in the everyday life of the school. The school are looking for a strong Deputy Head to join the SLT as a key member.
The school is based within a close knit community with strong ties to children’s families, and academic support although the school excels in this area as well. The school supports teaching in a non-pressured, happy way, encouraging a love of learning and bringing out the many facets of the pupils personalities and seeking a Deputy Head who values these qualities.
The new Deputy Head will be providing the lead with regards to the academic achievements of the Prep school where children enjoy a vibrant, broad curriculum that stimulates, challenges and excites.
An outstanding and passionate Deputy Head is required to join this school, from September 2020, or January 2021 to take the lead on deployment of academic staff and working closely with the Head. The successful Deputy Head will be a strong educator and leader, with the enthusiasm to be an effective member of the SLT.
The appointed candidate will be an exceptional and charismatic leader, who has a clear vision for what makes a successful independent school, and will be someone who can develop lasting positive relationships with staff and parents alike. The successful candidate will have experience of the independent schools sector as a teacher and leadership experience at various levels, experience of managing, developing, motivating and inspiring staff and experience of school financial management.
This Deputy Head position would suit an experienced Deputy Head teacher who is looking for their first Headship or an already experienced Deputy Head looking for a new challenge. The Successful Candidate needs to meet the Essential criteria:
– A good degree and a strong academic background
– Strong ability to understand baseline data and support pupil’s achievement
– leadership skills and confidence to lead a staff team and work with well with parents and children
– extensive experience of 11+ and 13+ senior school assessments
– good working knowledge and experience of Safeguarding pupils
- Head of department teaching experience, ideally within the Independent Prep Schools Sector
