Our client, an independent prep school for boys in Hampstead, is looking for a Head of Science to oversee the stimulating delivery of Science from Reception to Year 8. Reporting directly to the Deputy Head, Academic, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all schemes of work and curriculum plans are appropriate for an academic preparatory school, incorporating challenge and support for all students.

As the Head of Science, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all staff responsible for delivering the curriculum are confident in delivering high-quality lessons, coordinating resources, and conducting assessments in line with the school’s reporting and assessment policy.

In addition to leading the Science Faculty, you will work as part of a wider Middle Management Team, attending Heads of Faculty meetings and contributing to the School Development Plan. You will also be responsible for providing enrichment and cultural opportunities for students, preparing them for scholarship examinations, and updating the Faculty Handbook and Development Plan annually. This is an excellent opportunity to leave a lasting impact on a school’s Science curriculum and the broader community.

We are looking for a proactive and professional individual with a track record of success in Science education. The successful candidate must model high standards of professional behaviour, be committed to their own self-development, and provide CPD suggestions and opportunities to enhance Teaching and Learning within the Faculty.

Key requirements:

  • A forward-thinking approach to enhancing the Science provision at a prep school spanning from Reception to Year 8
  • Proficiency in designing and delivering a rigorous and captivating Science curriculum for all year levels
  • A proven record of implementing curriculum modifications that lead to better student outcomes
  • Demonstrable dedication to providing ongoing professional development opportunities for Science faculty members
  • Experience in assessing Science provision quality through scrutinizing work samples, conducting lesson observations, and facilitating departmental moderation exercises.
