Connaught Education are a specialist recruitment company serving the independent schools sector in the UK and overseas

CANDIDATE ZONE

THE INDEPENDENT
SCHOOLS SECTOR

Connaught Education has been recruiting for the UK independent school sector since 2004. We have worked with hundreds of schools across the country in that time and made thousands of successful appointments.

The British independent school sector is seen as the gold standard of education in the world. We recruit for a wide range of positions; teaching is naturally the most popular appointment we make, but we also actively recruit management and leadership, support staff for the classroom and increasingly school office positions ranging from HR to marketing to PAs.

We mainly place candidates into permanent/long term roles, but do also provide short term cover. Teaching in the sector has many financial and non-financial benefits: small class sizes, good behaviour, long holidays, excellent resources, vibrant extracurricular programmes and committed parents.

We are based in London and have always had a large number of clients in the city and surrounding Home Counties. Over the years we have also grown a client base throughout the rest of the country and now work with schools in the South West, Wales, the Midlands, the North and Scotland. We have a dedicated consultant in our Birmingham office who serves the Midlands area.

We recruit for both day and boarding schools and those that are pre-prep, prep, senior and through. We have worked with schools from all major independent school associations including HMC, IAPS, ISA, SoH and GSA.

We very much appreciate and understand how independent schools come with their own culture and personality; they are looking for staff members that will match this culture and it is here where we look for the inner person as a match and not merely a CV. We of course represent experienced teachers from the sector but also source high quality staff from the state sector, internationally trained teachers and high quality graduates/NQTs at the start of their career.

Our team is experienced, knowledgeable and passionate. Many are former teachers themselves and all are able to advise you on your next move. We are able to offer CV advice, interview tips and negotiate a fair remuneration package for you.

TEACHING ABROAD

As the increase in demand for quality international schools continues to rise, so does the demand for quality teachers to staff them. Working in the international sector offers a fantastic opportunity not only to broaden your teaching experiences but also to travel and see the world. British trained teachers are highly sought after in the international school sector; not just for English curriculum schools but also for IB and American/Canadian/Australian schools.

Many teachers consider moving into the international sector, but what can they expect? In addition to the competitive salary, which can often be tax-free, most schools offer accommodation, health insurance, annual return flights home, free places for children of staff and a range of other incentives and bonuses.

The move abroad provides a wonderful opportunity for cultural engagement. Teachers enjoy a uniquely broadened perspective of cultural contrasts, while having a real chance of making a difference in an international community. Just like the UK independent sector, teachers in international schools have the benefit of small classes of motivated students, excellent resources, a rich extra-curricular programme and committed parents.

We work with international schools in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and the Americas. We have worked with international schools from several prestigious associations including COBIS, BSME and BSO. We recruit not just teachers but also senior leadership, management and support staff. The majority of our placements are on fixed term contracts of 2-3 years, which is common in the international sector.

Our consultants will be able to give you practical advice on what to expect so that you can make an informed decision. We are able to offer CV advice, interview tips and negotiate a fair remuneration package for you.
